Ways to Stay Connected in Hillhurst Sunnyside This Summer

Summer has a way of bringing people together. The days feel a little longer, routines soften, and suddenly it’s easier to spend time outside and stay connected.

One of the best parts of summer at HSCA is how many opportunities there are to connect. From weekly programs to community events, there’s always something bringing people together.

Here’s a snapshot of what a week can look like at HSCA:

Mondays, Fresh Routes runs from 4–6 pm, bringing affordable groceries and fresh produce right into the neighbourhood.

Wednesdays, our Outdoor Farmers’ Market takes place from 3–7 pm. It’s a midweek anchor for fresh food, familiar faces, and a chance to slow down and take it all in!

Fridays this summer, families with young children can also take part in Hillhurst Sunnyside Drop-In Play and Mini Mother Goose, a free summer program offered in partnership with Carya. We’re so excited to welcome Mini Mother Goose to HSCA this summer and to continue building meaningful partnerships that help create accessible, family-friendly spaces in our community. Families can enjoy play time, snacks, and a mini Mother Goose circle in a welcoming community setting. The program is designed for parents and caregivers with children ages 0–6 and takes place at HSCA from 10–11:30 am on July 10 and 24 and August 7 and 21. No registration is required.

Thursdays, Neighbour Night happens on the first and third of the month starting at 5:30 pm. It’s a chance to connect with neighbours, take a night off from cooking, and take part in a shared activity. Each one is a little different, but the focus is always the same, bringing people together.

Saturdays, Pickleball runs from 10:30 am–12:00 pm. It’s welcoming, social, and open to all levels. You can come on your own or bring a friend. It’s a great way to move, meet people, and be part of something.

Sundays, the Flea Market runs from 7 am–3 pm, with a mix of vendors, regulars, and those little unexpected finds that keep people coming back.

Beyond these weekly touchpoints, we offer a range of programs for all ages throughout the week. Some are free, some are paid, and all are built around creating space for people to show up and take part.
