Community Connections

Community Connections aims to build relationships of support among neighbours and community members – particularly those who are at risk of social exclusion – while building capacity to become more self-sufficient.

Community Connections programming is supported by Family & Community Support Services.

Fresh Food Basket

Fresh Food Basket is a weekly drop-in food access program for anyone having difficulty accessing the food that they need for a healthy life. Each week on Mondays from 4-6pm, community members can stop in at HSCA to select a small bag of food (mostly fresh produce) from our market style program. Food is offered for free in this program and is intended to support community members who are facing financial barriers to accessing fresh food. No proof of income required.

ESL Drop In Club

Join us every Tuesday evening from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Practice and improve your English speaking and listening skills in an informal, conversation based club. Class size is limited. We welcome residents of the Hillhurst Sunnyside community, and residents of the rest of Calgary if space is available. Private tutoring for IELTS and TOEFL exams is also available outside of class hours. No charge!

Neighbour Night

The Neighbour Night brings together community members on a weekly basis to participate in family-friendly activities and to engage in learning opportunities on issues of importance to members.
Through a democratic process, members select the types of activities (e.g. knitting, zumba, cooking, documentary watching), as well as the issues they would like to discuss and learn more about (e.g. money management, affordable housing, self care and mental health, etc.) over a 10-week period.
