Statutory Plans

When reviewing planning applications, the Hillhurst Sunnyside Planning Committee refer to the statutory plans that incorporate the community. The City is currently updating several statutory plans which impacts how the Planning Committee will function.

The Municipal Development Plan is the long-term over-arching plan for the City of Calgary. This plan is being merged with the Calgary Transportation Plan into one updated document called The Calgary Plan. Work on these changes is underway and more information can be found here.

The guiding statutory plan for the communities of Hillhurst Sunnyside is the Riley Local Area Plan.

Riley Communities Local Area Plan (LAP)

The LAP was created in consultation with the community and is a statutory document that was originally approved by Council in 2025. It provides an overarching vision for the redevelopment of the communities. You can access a PDF version of the Local Area Plan below.
