Riley Area Construction Updates

The 2024 construction season is upon us and with that comes disruptions that may impact your daily commutes. The City of Calgary and Calgary Transit have many projects planned to take place throughout Hillhurst and Sunnyside. These include the Sunnyside flood barrier, improving mobility opportunities along 2nd and 7th Avenues, upgrades at the Sunnyside LRT station, and the Gladstone Connect community draining improvements in Hillhurst. Current and upcoming projects

  • The Sunnyside Flood Barrier is part of the City of Calgary’s overall flood mitigation strategy, which is building a permanent flood barrier in Sunnyside.

    March 2024: Approximately 24 trees will e removed on the southside of Memorial Drive. The tree removal aligns with the migratory bird nesting requirements.

    Summer 2024: Anticipated construction start.

    What to Expect: Closures of vehicle lanes, and pedestrian and cycling pathways. Please follow all posted signage.

  • 2 Avenue/7 Avenue NW - introducing dedicated wheeling landes between the curb and parked cars. This project is intended to be 5A (Appropriate for all ages and abilities)

    3 Avenue NW (between 9A and 10 ST) - removing parking on the north side and reallocating space to widen the sidewalk on both sides of the street.

  • Upper Plateau Separation Project - final phase of work currently underway along 10 ST NW.

    Kensington Community Drainage Improvements - information to come.

  • Crossing Arm Updates - information to come.
